About Martial Arts and Taekwondo
Martial Arts
Martial arts refer to various types of self defense that rely on the use of the body over use of weapons based on skills originating in Japan, China and Korea. Some of the more popular martial arts forms are TaeKwonDo, Hapkido, Aikido, Jitsu, Karate and Judo.
Martial arts are often characterized by their general fighting styles (kicking, striking, locks, grappling and throwing) and their use of weapons. Karate for instance employs numerous striking techniques that include kicks, throws, dodges and holds. TaeKwonDo on the other hand uses kicking, punching and assorted evasive techniques.
While the martial arts were originally used as a form of self-defense, nowadays many of the various martial arts forms have also been modified into various sports forms that can commonly be seen at competitions and exhibitions.
TaeKwonDo
TaeKwonDo is an artistic discipline. The techniques are done with graceful and powerful movements. Students continuously strive to improve the artistic presentation of each technique. Susac's Taekwondo & Self-Defense Academy believes that everyone can benefit from exposure to this artistic discipline.
TaeKwonDo is a very popular form of martial arts. It is well known for its use of kicking techniques, which distinguish it from many other forms of martial arts such as Karate and Judo.
TaeKwonDo was originally developed in Korea almost 2,000 years ago and was strongly influenced by Japanese Karate during the occupation of Korea by Japan. In some circles TaeKwonDo is actually known as Korean Karate.
TaeKwonDo as a form of self defense relies more on stopping attacks and less on starting them as compared to other forms of martial arts. As a technique TaeKwonDo teaches a person how to use their own body in ways that prevent an outsider from harming them.
Our aim is to help our students achieve the best in their martial arts and self defense skills through disciplined training and respect towards all people
